Clement Park and its 200 acres continue to provide Summerset with a unique and beautiful event venue. Now, as the primary fundraiser of the Foothills Foundation, it has grown in size and sophistication, attracting over 40,000 festival-goers each year. In the early days of the event, organizers had to borrow money to keep the event afloat. Now, the mission of the event is to raise funds for Foothills Park & Recreation District and to create opportunity for businesses and organizations to showcase their specialties.

All proceeds benefit HomeAid Orange County in its mission to build dignified housing where homeless families and individuals can rebuild their lives. Project Playhouse has raised over $5 million in Orange County to help those in need. In 2008, Project Playhouse celebrated its 17th anniversary in Orange County. The event included an Open House drawing 3,000 additional visitors to the property.

In 2007, there were over 105 sites located throughout Bernal Heights and we were voted in 2003 the “Best Five & Dime Street Sale” by the SF Bay Guardian. The Official Garage Sale map with all site information will be available at the BHNC from 9:00 AM to 4 PM at 515 Cortland Avenue on the day of the event. Herndon’s NatureFest is a great activity for all ages and a “must do” for families. This free event features games, nature crafts, face painting, music, and more. When visitors arrive they will receive a “Passport to Nature’s Treasures,” which includes a treasure map with descriptions of the various nature stations. Everyone who gets their passport stamped at 10 of the 14 stations will receive a big gourmet cookie reward after their tour through the park. The nature stations that will be set up throughout the southern part of this beautiful 58-acre nature park include: Honeybees – See the inside of a display beehive and learn how bees make honey by Garcia’s Apiary. Bats – A “bat cave” for kids and expert information with Johnny Pilcicki. Snakes – Their place in our lives – good or bad? Stream Life/Water Quality – See how tiny critters are clues to water quality. Use microscopes to see the wonder of life in a drop of stream water with Darrell Schwalm. Animal Artifacts, Skull & Bones – Hands-on chance to learn about animal form and function. Rocks & Fossils – Learn what fossils tell us and the special role of volcanic rock in the park with Dr. Joseph Gambino. Stream Valleys – Lifeblood of the Land – Discover how the water in the park’s local stream becomes drinking water and what lives here by Nature’s Web L.L.C. Forest Habitat – Live animals, mounts, tracks and signs. Farm Life – Demonstration by Frying Pan Park of what life may have been like when the park was farmed. Raptors – The role of hawks, owls, and others with live birds and special presentations by Lois Martin-Napier. Meadow, Butterflies and Native Plants – Plant communities, grasses and wildflowers with the Virginia Native Plant Society and Mona Miller “The Butterfly Lady.” How to grow your own habitats. Web of Life – A captivating role-playing activity that illustrates natural connections Take photos, learn and laugh with animal mounts and outdoor information provided by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and receive helpful energy resource information from the U.S. Minerals Management Service. Volunteers with knowledge and expertise – as well as those without specific experience including youth – are welcome to help with this event.
